I am working long and hard (behind the scenes) to make this blog all that it can be. I really want to get on the right track. I want to change the whole look though I don't think I will have the fundage to make that happen by the 1st of June but we will be an all reading blog all the time starting then. I have to get back to work on that but I wanted to share what I am reading right now with you:

The Big Gay Chip on my Shoulder by Rob Thomas (yep that guy from Matchbox Twenty(I love them))

Focus on what?

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

After lots of thought I have com to a conclusion, I can't just sit around writing about whatever comes to mind. Maybe it is my self-depreciating nature or maybe it is just that I am truly not that good of a writer but the fact remains that I don't feel like I can just write off the cuff without any direction day after day. I can't produce blogger babble everyday. For the last few months I have foolishly tried only to find myself having petered out half way through the month. Around the 15th of every month I have been sitting in front of my computer not knowing what to write and so deciding to not write about anything, I do the same thing the next day and the next until I am so far behind I give up for the month. If I only had a topic, something to focus on to keep me going, well from now on I will. There are three things I love to do most in this world, write, read and travel. So I am going to combine them, I will continue this blog but from now on it will be about reading. Things I have read, things I want to read, things I read to my son, books, magazines, authors, reading techniques even, anything as long as it has to do with reading.
Next I will revive my other blog Somewhere Else Travel and write about travel. This blog will be filled with my travels as well as travel tips, other travel websites I enjoy, deals I get, and anything and everything about travel. Although it won't be exclusively about family travel I do have a son and I love to travel. I also strive to show him as much of the world as I can so there should be a fair amount of tips for traveling with kids in over there too. I hope everyone who is with me now will continue to follow me as I make this transition. I think these changes will be for the better and I hope by doing this I can find more fulfillment through my writing and blogging projects and in turn provide you will better content to read.

Focus

Monday, May 11, 2009

I need focus. Focus is one thing I have usually had in the past but now I feel like I am bobbing around in the ocean. Sure I am hanging on to a life preserver but there is no land in sight. So, in my desperation I have been flailing my arms about. That action has kept me alive so far but if I want to keep on living I need to pick a direction and swim that way.

A change

Sunday, May 10, 2009

I've been Thinking of a change. I have been searching for direction in my life. It seems like ever since I gave been a stay at home Mom the main thing that I have lost is a sense of self and the direction to life that comes with it.

It seems unlikely I will find that direction by going back to work anytime soon and so it is clear that I need to find purpose on my own. Something unreliant on everyone else that motivates me to continue on and better myself. I do not want to become dull I want to be sharp and useful to the world.

Some people would say I should feel useful by Mothering my son. After all if I raise him "right" could I not produce a sharp man? Yes, but a persons self worth should not be linked to any other persons actions including their children.

My goal right now is to reclaim that direction for myself.

oh how I love books.

today I went to the first real pick up as many books as you want, grab whatever looks good book sale that I have been to in a really long time. I used to go to these quite a bit as well as picking up books at goodwill, used bookstores and hell even new bookstores have been out of my reach for any kind of browsing pleasure buying in a while too. Today though as part of my Mommy's Weekend Away I was able to take my time to look through the books really picking what I wanted also since I bought the books at a library sale most of them were only 25 cents each so I didn't even feel guilty about buying as many as I did. Here is what I added to my collection:

Book of Country Essays by Benjamin Rice
Backpack by Emily Barr
838 Ways to Amuse a Child by June Johnson
Tangerine by Edward Bloor
Camille by Alexander Dumas Jr. this is a really old copy, Love It!
Suburbia's Coddled Kids by Peter Wyden
Robin Hood and His Merry Men retold by J. Walker McSpadden
Jazz by Toni Morrison
Diggers by Terry Pratchett
Dark Continent and Other Stories by Laura Kalpakian

and for the little guy
Jack and the Beanstalk
The Hilderbrandt Mother Goose
Pirate Pete
by Kim Kennedy

I am so happy with my new books. I will probably have to send them home but as long as I can keep it under $15 it will be cheaper than checking a bag on the way home. Tomorrow we are headed to a wool festival, I have no idea what it is all about (except wool of course) but I will keep you posted.

On the road

Friday, May 8, 2009

God, I love to travel! I am currently flying off for what I am going to call Mommy's Weekend Away. I can't tell you where I am going because it is a secret. The person I am going to visit does not know that I am coming and since the internets reach far and wide I have decided not to disclose my location here just in case she suspects something.
I have left the little guy with my Daddy. I have to admit that I am a littlenervous about this even though I know I shouldn't be. Super Hubby is a great Dad and I know they will do just fine, in fact they will probably have a lot of fun.
Right now I am focusing on me and the trip. My plane left late so I am hoping to get there in time to make my bus connection. If not I will be stuck at the airport for another two hours which would be lame to say the least. Oh well, there is nothing I can do now so I am going to sit back and enjoy my flight.

Postcrossing

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

I have found something that I just love. It is postcrossing! What you do is simple. You get 5 address' for people all over the world. Then you send them each a postcard. Each postcard you send has a special tracking number that is entered on the postcrossing website when received. When one of your postcards arrives at it's destination you receive an email letting you know, then you can request another address and send out another postcard. While all this is going on you are also receiving postcards from other people and registering them on the website. I love it because I get to pick out and send postcards to people which is great for me because I love stationary and anything having to do with writing, also I love getting postcards from all over the world. They have such interesting things on them. The map above shows my postcrossing map. The pink lines are tracking the places I have received postcards form and the blue lines are tracking where I have sent postcards.

Florastor Kids Giveaway

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Did you know there are billions of microbiota inside the intestines that keep the digestive system working properly? An upset in the balance of these microbiota, or flora, can cause intestinal problems, including diarrhea and abdominal discomfort, which can range from moderate to severe. I had heard of these guys in Science class way back in High School but it was only recently that I started thinking about it more and more. As I get older and start thinking about how to keep myself in good health and from watching Jamie Lee Curtis on those yogurt commercials.

Florastor Kids is
unique because it can be safely given to babies and children from the age of two months which is something I really like since most other diarrhea medications can't be used that young. Florastor® Kids is a great-tasting powder that can be dissolved in beverages, including infant formula, or soft foods, such as applesauce. Another thing I really like about it is the active ingredient in Florastor Kids has been clinically tested for more than 50 years and the active ingredient in Florastor Kids is mentioned by the World Health Organization for the management of C. diff-associated diarrhea . That says to me it isn't just some fly-by-night product.

Florastor Kids can be used to help prevent and manage antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD), acute gastroenteritis, traveler’s diarrhea and clostridium difficile (C. diff, which is a severe, possibly fatal infection of the colon that can occur after healthy microbiota are wiped out by the use of strong antibiotics, allowing a pathogenic bacteria to thrive; currently being seen more often, as C. diff is on the rise)

Florastor Kids is available in most retail chain pharmacies, and at independent pharmacies. Visit www.florastor.com to find out where to purchase Florastor Kids in your area. It is commonly found in the anti-diarrheal/stomach aid section, and can also be obtained by asking the pharmacist (many stores keep Florastor Kids behind the counter). It can also be purchased online at www.drugstore.com

Recently I was given a sample of Florastor Kids to try with my two year old son, luckily the arrival of my samples coincided with a road trip. Road trips are usually the only time the Little Guy has much trouble in the diaper department. This time I started him on the Florastor a day before our trip and continued for a couple days after we arrived at our destination. He had none of his regular issues while traveling, in fact it was just like we weren't even on the road at all. Florastor kept his system running just like normal, which was a big help to me. When you are traveling you need everything to go as smoothly as possible.

Now you can have your very own sample of Florastor Kids! I was given a second 10-packet box of Florastor Kids (a $12.95 value) to give away to one lucky reader.
