Book Review - The Turkey's Treat by Marie Sanderlin Metroke

The Turkey's Treat by Marie Sanderlin Metroke is a fresh approach to the holiday season.

Four days before Christmas our whiny main character, Jeff Watson wants the perfect holiday complete with snow, tree and turkey. Mother nature takes care of the snow but his parents need a little cajoling when it comes to purchasing a tree and bird for the big day. Finally the whole family piles into the auto and heads to the tree farm. Jeff finds the perfect tree and although it is too big for their car and their home Jeff gets his way and they cut it and tie it to the roof. On to the grocery store where the fun really begins as the store is giving away a free LIVE turkey to one lucky customer. The turkey gets loose in the store ultimately sending Jeff to the Emergency Room but after a quick bandaging the family returns tot he store to find the manager has decided to give the free turkey to Jeff and his family. Through all the ups and downs of this story the family members have very realistic relationships with each other, Jeff whining, the older sister pretending not to care and the parents playfully bickering with each other but in the end they are brought even closer by everything that happens.
All-in-all The Turkey's Treat is a fun read perfect for the upcoming holiday season. My son learned the word turkey from this book and had a great time following Jeff and his family through their adventure to have the perfect holiday.
