What I want to know about David Duchovny's sex addiction

Thursday, August 28, 2008

I love David Duchovny. I watched the very first episode of the X-files when it aired and watched nearly every single episode in order from that day on. This show helped me through a lot of difficult times in my life weirdly enough.
Turns out he is a sex addict. I wonder what happened to push the whole family over the edge making him go into rehab for a sex addiction. My husband brought up a good point though, aren't we all biologically programed to be sex addicts? Our primary function biologically is to make it to puberty and then reproduce then take care of that offspring as long as you can so that they can grow up and have children. In other words, David do what you have to do but don't worry too much about the whole thing that is just the way we are built.

Stay out of it

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Why can't the US just stay the hell out of the way and let other countries do what they want. If they are not directly attacking us then we should stay out of the way. Ok if they are jsut slaughtering people like in Darfur then sure we should stick up for them (which of course we aren't) but if there is a war going on between two contries like Russia and Georgia for instance then we should stay the hell out of it.

We don't need to give them advice or tell them that what they are doing is wrong or right in a press conference we just need to keep our mouths shut and stay out of it.

I'm just saying.

Morgan Freeman

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

I don't get to use the computer as much as I would like here in the hotel room. Today I turned on the computer and learned that Morgan Freeman had been in a car accident Sunday night. I also learned that he lives in Mississippi which although did not surprise me it was something I did not know. Even when you are the type of person who thinks they do not put celebrities on a pedestal I still find that I am taken off guard when I learn that someone I admire so much from afar is so close. Morgan Freeman is not living in Hollywood he is right next door in Mississippi. Weird and wonderful. Anyway, I just wanted to say I am sending love his way. He is a wonderful actor and someone that I am honored to learn from. I am sure he works hard at his craft as much as it just comes naturally. I hope he makes a full recovery and can live to make more movies or more of whatever his heart desires.
You can find a blog here on his Plan!t Now website.

Kid's Menu Choices

Monday, August 4, 2008

So I was skimming through the USA Today that we get under our door each day for being a Hilton Honors Member at the Hampton Inn we are staying at in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, (For more on that see my Somewhere Else Travel blog.) and I saw an interesting article about the calories in food on the children's menus of popular fast food or chain restaurants. A study revealed that kids' menu choices can top 1000 calories. Is anyone surprised? If you are you should not be. Look at a kid's menu next time you are in a restaurant. The adult menu usually has options for sides not to mention soups or salads but the kid's menu rarely has anything but a burger, chicken strips, fries maybe mac-n-cheese or another equally calorie laden option. One person quoted in the article offers the idea that restaurants should list the calories for each item on the menu. That is a brilliant idea but don't stop at the kids menu. How are we supposed to set a good example if we pick salads for the kids and burgers for ourselves? We need to put the nutritional information on all menu items. So we can all learn what the best choices are.
Now I do not expect every single dish to be made the exact same way every time of course one day there will be 150 calories and the next there will be 157 calories no two chefs make the dish exactly alike but with the calories on the menu I can get a better idea of what is good and what is bad and that is better than it is now.
Another option of course for all those people who order religiously off the kid's menu for their children is, Don't. Sure the kid's menu has bright colors and puzzle games on it and at times is a little less expensive than regular menu items but the nutritional value of ordering a salad and splitting it with your child is worth the extra expense.
I challenge everyone to do one thing, instead of fries or chips that come with your sandwich pay the extra dollar or two to get the veggie of the day. I did this while I was pregnant and I felt so much better for it, Today I am going to start doing it again. I can not expect my son to eat any better than I do, so I have to make the changes first.

What's in a Name?

Friday, July 25, 2008

When your name is Talula Does The Hula a hell of a lot. A judge in New Zealand ordered that Talula's name be changed. She is nine years old. She has been living with this name for a long time and I see no reason to change it now. Sure it is unusual but so what people are unusual, everyone should not try to be the same as everyone else. What are they going to call her? Jessica or maria maybe, I have nothing against those names but aren't there enough of them in the world already? Her parents wanted her to be different maybe even special, what is the harm in that? Ok so all the experts will same she will be or has been a social outcast. Is that really because of her name maybe is is her personality to be a little shy or maybe it is because her family is going through a divorce and she is stuck in a custody battle, ever think of that?

Maybe if people stop telling her that her name is funny and drawing out this big long court case to change her name legally then she would feel better about herself. Start telling her that her name is unique and beautiful. Tell her that her name is special and maybe she will start thinking so too. She is nine she will still believe most of whatever adults in her life tell her so tell her she is wonderful and beautiful and special just like her name. Tell her that her parents must have known she would be unique and that is why they gave her that name.

P.S. How about letting people call her just Talula which is a wonderful name with a history of fascinating people attached to it, Bankhead for example. There are plenty of people who don't tell anyone but their closest friends and family their middle names.

And then there's John McCain

Thursday, July 24, 2008

Senator John McCain was supposed to visit New Orleans today but instead he has decided to go to Columbus, Ohio. Now I have nothing against the people of Columbus as a matter of fact I have quite a bit of family in Ohio and I like them just fine but if you have the choice to go to New Orleans or Columbus let me tell you which one you should choose...you guessed it, New Orleans. I do not want to go into all the reasons if you do not already know them then you are a boring human being who needs to get out of the house more or you are a child who has not been given the gift of travel by your parents and have not been around long enough to rectify that situation and I am sorry for you.

On top of all the fun things to do here we have the history and as a politician with a shot (albeit a very small one) at the White House never never never cancel a trip to New Orleans. Tell us you are not coming at all, that is fine but telling us you are coming and then deciding Columbus is a better choice is just a slap in the face. We need to be coddled, we need to be babied we need whoever is taking over as president next year to come here and hold us for a minute then look us in the eye and promise it won't happen on their watch. That they understand how important we are to the history and culture (not to mention our Port) of this country and that they will not forget about us. That is what we need from the candidates. Not a canceled trip.

For the record I know he has been here before and I know there is a Hurricane, do I care? No, it's kind of the principle of the thing.
