Why is it that companies jerk their employees around with stupid crap all the time? Anybody?
How about this one? Why is it that US Airways can't keep a plane on schedule to save their lives? How about to save their company? No answer for that one either?
My SH (That's Super Hubby) was supposed to fly into the local airport at 9:15pm and although it would be keeping the LG (that's Little Guy) up a little past his bedtime we were going to go pick him up because we haven't seen each other all week. Now however his plane doesn't even leave Charlotte until 10pm which means he won't be home until way past when we would be able to go get him.
Lame, lame, lame, lame, lame. This makes me so angry but I am trying not to say anything stupid. I really want to say lots and lots of stupid things to and about the airline and maybe even a bit about why if you were looking at all the flights on the Orbitz screen would you pick a flight with a layover in Charlotte when going from ATL to New Orleans. I'm just saying.

Yeah that is LG (Little Guy) speak for Pizza. All day long yesterday he was chanting over and over Piddka, Piddha, Piddha. I would ask "would you like some pizza?" of course he would say "Yetha" (LG for yes) just like he knew exactly what both he and I were talking about. So we made a trip to the grocery store after his nap to pick up a Digorno (not delivery). When he saw the box he nearly jumped out of the cart with joy repeating to anyone who was within three aisles of us "Piddha, Piddha." I made sure not to offer him anything to eat on the way home or while the Pizza was in the oven. I didn't refill his juice/water so that he would be good and hungry when the pizza came out of the oven was cut into bite sized pieces and placed onto his plate.
I sat down next to him with my slice of pizza. He looked at me then started to get down form his chair and run around.
I said "don't you want any pizza?"
Again he just looked at me
I said "look there is pizza on your plate."
The look
I said "you don't want any pizza?"
The look punctuated by him running around and around the table.
He never came back for pizza
Childrens book review
I love to read so when I learned it was good to read to little ones all the time I was very happy for the opportunity to get even more titles under my belt. I started reading to my son even before he was born, then when he was so little that it didn't matter what i read I would sit in the rocking chair nursing him and reading out loud from whatever book I was in the middle of at the time. A little Life with Jeeves (A Jeeves and Bertie Compendium)
All that reading paid off because now I have a 2 year old who loves to read. We read a book before nap and a few books before bed and then throughout the day he will randomly bring books out of his room and ask you to read them. If you ever visit our house be prepared to read a few books to the little one, just letting you know.
In the spirit of all those children's books that we read every day I thought I would do a little review here to maybe help out any of those parents or grandparents or friends who are looking for a book to read or gift to the little ones in their lives.
My Car by Byron Barton. I want to say this book is simple and when I first picked it off the shelf at the library I thought there was no way I would enjoy this book but because my son LOVES cars I would take one for the team so to speak and check it out. Each page is illuminated with bright high contrast colors which put a smile on my face each time I opened the book. Only a few words expand the story on each page making it perfect for the youngest readers. Sam (the main and dare I say only character) takes you through the workings of his car and a day in his driving life. There is even a little twist at the end which as a parent I could see coming form a mile away but my little guy found very amusing once he 'got it' which was about the third time around. All-in-all we hated to give this one back to the library and if my guy was a little bit younger I would probably purchase it for his collection but at his age I don't think it would hold his literary interest for much longer. If you are looking for a book for the very youngest ones I would say newborn to 3 years old would really enjoy this book.
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. I am putting this one on here for two reasons. 1. It was Dr. Suess' birthday earlier this week and 2. people seem to wonder what the right age is for Dr. Suess. Dr. Suess is like Reese's peanut butter cups, "There's no wrong age to read Suess." It is bright, it is cute, it is smart, it is funny, it rhymes, it teaches a lesson, the list could virtually go on for ever (especially since this is a virtual platform but who cares about semantics). We all want our children to be bright, smart, cute, full of lessons and speaking in rhyme which would be funny and there in proves my point. Read Dr. Suess to your children from the youngest age for all of those reasons and one more oft overlooked but truthfully very important reason, you will like it too!
This next one I haven't read yet but it is much anticipated
Blueberry Girl by Neil Gaiman. I have a weird relationship with Neil Gaiman mostly because we have never met written each other or spoken to each other but over looking all of those things I don't like his books. At least I can't seem to get through a single one of his books for adults, his children's fare however are real page turners for me, go figure. Anyway this is his newest tale for tots, it comes out very soon and I am very interested in picking up a copy to share with the little guy. Anyway these Acrylic paints are 2 for $1.00 at Micheal's crafts. They might not be great for super professional stuff but for fun painting or everyday crafting they are great. I just wanted to pass this along.
Bass Pro Shop/Outdoor World
I love camping. We used to go all the time when I was little and I just loved it. hubby? Not so much and although he is a good sport about it we haven't gone very much together. Actually I think we went once not counting the days we hiked the Appalachian Trail in 11 years. Anyway, I want to take the little one because he loves the outdoors and I think (hope) will like camping too. So, we (I) have decided that this spring we are going to go camping. It will be awesome! With that in mind we have to buy a tent. The tents we would have bought in the past are not going to work this time around
given that we will need space for the little guy but he is not old enough for his own tent so we are looking for something much larger than we would have ever gotten before. This is leading us on a search for the best type or price tent we can get. I had heard of Bass Pro Shop/Outdoor World stores actually there is on in Florida I had passed by a couple times but had never been inside. I look them up online and the closest one to us was Baton Rouge and since we are always looking for day trip places to go it was perfect.
The best way I can think of to describe this place is Disney World for the Outdoor Man and by outdoor I don't mean "I like to go to the park," I mean "I like to hunt/fish, Sportsman's Paradise." It was amazing and disturbing all at the same time. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face no matter what was putting it there. the little one really liked it though. There were clothes and boats and grilling gear. They have an indoor pond with real fish and ducks and a raccoon living in a shack on an island in the pond. The elevator is glass and lowers into a fish tank so when you get on you are in the tank with the fish (
hope that makes sense). All of the columns are decorated to be trees with stuffed birds on the branches and bears and deer and all kinds of other animals all over the place. They also have guns and bows and rows and rows of fishing gear. I was surprised and a bit disappointed by the small amount of camping gear they had but the experience was worth it anyway. I was making fun of myself because with all the hunting gear around I was telling the little one to pet the (stuffed) ducks when we would pass them in the cart, which I don't think is what that place is all about. -all if you need sportsman outdoor things then this is the place for you, if you are looking for more "environmentally friendly" ways of visiting the outdoors maybe not but it was a fun day trip. Giving (Up)
So the theme for NaBloPoMo if you chose to write on it (which I definitely won't all month) is Giving (Up). I like how they opened it up with the (up) part because it is unfortunate but true that very few people could honestly write about the things they "give" every day for a whole month. I want to say that I could but I know that after a few days I would just be nitpicking about things like doing the dishes "giving my family clean dishes" and feeding the dog "giving the dog dinner" and really these are giving but somehow it doesn't feel like what someone means when they ask you "what do you give?"
I have some friends that really do give, maybe even enough to write for a whole month about it, which of course they would not do because they are not those kinds of people. They are the people that just do it and do not talk about it. All together though they give blood, and donate time to the local sherrif's office, they help find missing children and donate gift boxes full of presents every year for Christmas, they give to needy people at their church and have even been surrogates for another couple who couldn't have children. These are only the things I know they have done, I am sure there is more.
I am not that selfless. I would like to be (maybe) but I am not and that is the way it is, at least for now. I think I am an average amount of selfish though I don't think someone would describe me as selfish but I could definitely do better. So this month I am not going to write on this topic every day but I plan to keep a look out for the things I do or can give (up) for the good of myself, my family, my community and the world.
NaBloPoMo
That stands for National Blog Posting Month. It is a off-shoot of the National Novel Writing Month which I took part in (and won) in 2007. No you can't read my novel. I did make it to 50,000 words but after I went back and read it the whole thing was complete crap. Ok not complete crap, the original idea for the story was ok and then it turned into something completely different, there was a murder mystery sort of ascpet but I never said who did it at all or even talked much about police looking for the main characters or anything. Anyway the bottom line is that the whole thing wasn't very thought out and if I ever do it again and to anyone that has ever thought about doing it, have an outline. If I had an outline the whole thing would have gone a lot smoother and probably would have been at the least readable when November 30th rolled around alas I did not have someone (like you have now) giving you such a valuable pointer such as HAVE AN OUTLINE!!
