Book Review - Dirty Little Angels

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Dirty Little Angels takes place in the seedy under belly of New Orleans through the eyes of a teenager. Times are tough for Hailey and her family, her Father lost his job and her Mother has just lost a baby, it isn't pretty but now it's just life. As she delves into this new life she encounters quite a few tough decisions landing her in an unexpected place in the end.
Every time I got an opportunity to pick this book up I didn't want to put it down again. That being said I had one problem with this book. Not too far in one of the characters drinks a Pepsi, now this little fact may not bother some people, actually most people probably wouldn't notice it at all but no self respecting Southerner would drink Pepsi. From that moment on I approached this book with more skepticism than I had in the beginning.
I was completely surprised to find out Dirty Little Angels is Chris Tusa's first novel. You can tell he has worked hard to get to this point, this book as been hailed as "the To Kill a Mockingbird of 2009,"there were times I could see this book playing out like a movie in my head and when I got to the end I wanted more. I can't wait to see what Tusa does next.
